This blog post is about a little logical frustration I ran into regarding Format settings in CRM. The amusing thing is it all works perfectly logically, once you know how it works.
When you install CRM 2011 it will default to English (United States) for the Format settings, unless maybe I chose this whilst setting up CRM 2011
I should explain how the format settings work in CRM. Firstly format settings are just how the information is shown, the data is the same for everyone.
You have global format settings which can be found in SETTINGS/ADMINISTRATION/SYSTEM SETTINGS
You also have format settings which are set for each individual users which you can access via File/OPTIONS/FORMATS
The individual format settings take preference over the global settings, this allows people to configure the look and feel of CRM for their own personal tastes, even allowing them a customize these settings.
So when I installed CRM 2011 the default settings was English (United States). I changed this to English(Unitied Kingdom) but my personal format settings didn’t change from English (United States). I then had to go into my personal settings to change this format.
So the gotcha is any users created before you changed the system formatting will have been created and assigned the American formatting and they will have to change their personal formatting settings.
